In order to connect the DS smart® application with your Welch Allyn Connex Spot Monitor (CSM), you will need to change the name of the device so DS smart can identify the device during pairing. This guide will show you how to change the Welch Allyn device name.
1. Disconnect the Welch Allyn CSM from any Bluetooth device (tablet, phone, etc.)
2. Select the Settings tab.
3. Select the Advanced tab.
4. Select the Advanced settings code box. Enter the passcode "6345"and then OK. If the monitor indicates that advanced settings are not available, turn the monitor off and on. Then, perform this step again. |
|
5. Select the Network tab.
6. Select the Bluetooth tab.
7. Tap in the Device name text box to edit the name. The device name must contain the text "WACSM." This is used by DS smart to identify this Bluetooth-connected device as a Welch Allyn CSM. If the broadcasted name does not include WACSM, the monitor will not show as available to connect within the app. Select OK to save the new name |
|
8. For consistency, reset the Bluetooth of each tablet that will use this name. This helps the tablet recognize the new name. To reset the Bluetooth, disable Bluetooth and then enable it again. Alternatively, the tablet can be restarted to reset Bluetooth (useful for tablets in Kiosk mode). If you still experience problems, you may also attempt to restart the Welch unit. |
Android Users:
Android users should see the name updated immediately upon the next Bluetooth scan.
iOS Users:
When the Bluetooth name of the monitor is changed and does not contain "WACSM," iOS users may still see the old Bluetooth name until the device is connected to for the first time. After the initial connection, the updated Bluetooth name will be registered by the tablet and will no longer contain WACSM. This means that the peripheral will no longer show up in scans on that tablet. Changing the name of the peripheral again to include "WACSM" does not solve the issue because the name change does not take effect for that tablet until after the connection has been made.
To resolve, navigate to Settings, then Bluetooth, and try to connect to it from the list of nearby devices. In the unlikely event that the device does not show up on the list, a Bluetooth scanner/debugger app can be downloaded for the tablet to connect to the device and register the name change.
