Edan has offered a module update to its iM3 series vital signs monitors (VSM): version 4.9.3. This update improves the e-link (Bluetooth) connection process between the VSM and the tablet running the DS smart® application. This article will guide you through the update process.
Typically, the IT administrator of your corporation will be responsible for completing this procedure, although this article should be descriptive enough that others may accomplish this task.
Preparing the update-ready tablet
Preparing the update-ready tablet
Your corporation should have received a Samsung tablet (with charger) in the mail to borrow. This "update-ready tablet" has been pre-loaded with the software required to perform this update and is different from a "DS smart tablet."
Edan iM3 units must be updated one at a time. If your facility has multiple units, ensure that each is updated using the following procedure before sending the update-ready tablet back to us.
There are a few options to ensure all tablets are updated:
- Make a list with every serial number of iM3 unit to be updated beforehand, then find each unit in the building and update the VSMs one at a time.
- Alternately, collect all the iM3 units into a single room to perform the updates. Plan your approach so that no units are missed.
Updating an iM3
Prepare to update
Ensure that your update-ready tablet is powered on. If it won't power on or its battery level is less than 50%, plug in the tablet using the included charger. This will ensure that the tablet does not lose power during the update.
Before updating an iM3, secure all power connections between the VSM and the power outlet. This will ensure that a VSM does not lose power during an update. Check the iM3's e-link module version before the update to verify the unit needs the upgrade using this guide. The new e-link module version is 4.9.3.
Power down all iM3 units in the area. After all units have been shut down, power up only the unit that is being updated at the time. This will ensure that we can only update the unit that is powered on and no devices are connected to that unit.
Press and hold this button for approximately 3-4 seconds to power down or start up an iM3.
If you would like to check your iM3's serial number before the update, you can follow this guide, up until Step 5. Then, instead of tapping "About Machine," you can tap "Serial Number."
Update the Edan iM3
Select the FeasyBlue app.
1. Select the Setting button located at the bottom center of the app.
2. Select the OTA upgrade (SPP) button. |
|
3. Ensure the file ending in _493L_Update is selected. If it is not, jump to the end of this article for help with selecting the update file.
4. Ensure the box is checked next to the text Upgrade and back to default.
5. Select the Upgrading button. |
|
6. FeasyBlue will begin searching for nearby Bluetooth peripherals. You will need to search this list for an item that has IM3BT in the name. There may be multiple devices with IM3BT in the name, so it may be beneficial to use the Sort button at the top-left to order the nearby devices by signal strength. Check that the RSSI number to the right of your IM3BT device does not equal zero. This ensures the device is fully powered up and is nearby. Select that device. |
|
7. If prompted for a PIN code, enter: 123456, then OK.
8. Wait for the update to begin. Monitor the text at the top-left of the screen. If the update progresses, and this text changes to Successful, proceed to step 12. If the text says Failed, don't panic! Continue to step 9. |
|
9. If the update has Failed, use the power button on this Edan iM3 unit to shut down the VSM. Then, select the app switcher button at the bottom of the tablet's screen. |
|
10. Select Close all on the tablet's screen. Once the Edan iM3 has finished shutting down, press the power button again to start the iM3 back up.
11. Open the FeasyBlue app back up. Repeat from step 1 to retry the iM3 update.
12. Once the update status is noted as Successful, use the power button to shut down the Edan iM3 unit. Select the app switcher button at the bottom of the tablet's screen. Close all to exit the FeasyBlue app. |
Verify the update
Follow the guide at this link to verify that the iM3's e-link version starts with 4.9.3. This indicates a successful update. If you don't see this version, retry the update.
Reconnecting with DS smart
Unpair from Bluetooth
If a DS smart tablet had been connected with this iM3 prior to the update, the previous Bluetooth pairing will need to be removed before the updated iM3 can connect with that tablet.
Step | Android | iOS |
1. Navigate to the tablet's home screen.
|
If your DS smart tablet is a Samsung tablet that is managed by Direct Supply, you will need to exit Kiosk mode (guide here). | If you cannot reach the home screen, contact your IT Admin. |
2. Open the tablet's Settings application. You may need to swipe vertically on the tablet's home screen to see additional apps.
3. (Android only) Select the Connections button. | iOS devices can continue to next step.
4. (Android only) Select the Bluetooth button to see a list of your paired devices. | iOS devices can continue to next step.
5. From the Bluetooth menu, tap the gear or "i" icon next to any previous IM3BT pairings.
6. Select Unpair or Forget This Device.
7. Reset tablet for use.
|
If this is an Android tablet managed by Direct Supply, re-enter Kiosk mode. | If the iPad is managed by your corporation, you may need to ask your IT Admin to reconfigure the tablet. |
Get readings in DS smart
To ensure that the iM3 is working as expected, test that readings can be transferred from the iM3 to a DS smart tablet. Power up the iM3, log in to the DS smart app, and try to take readings on this VSM. You should be prompted for a pairing code; when this happens, enter: 123456.
If readings haven't been pulled in, ensure there are readings on the iM3. Try tapping the "Get Readings" button in DS smart a second time. If you are still having trouble, please contact us for assistance.
