When setting up your tablet for the first time, you will need to complete a one-time process of configuring your tablet for using the DS smart® application. You will also need to set up your Wi-Fi network and pair your Welch Allyn vital signs monitor (VSM) to your DS smart-connected tablet. DS smart will be ready for use after these steps are completed.
This guide will show you how to complete the necessary steps to get DS smart up and running.
Configure a Wi-Fi Network
| 1. Select Get Started on the welcome screen. | |
| 2. If wifi is not set up (such as for first-time setup), then the Internet Connection Required popup will show. Select Set up Wi-Fi. | |
| 3. You will be taken to your Wi-Fi configurations screen. Ensure Wi-Fi is turned on. | |
| 4. Select the network you want to join (this needs to be a secure network, not an open network such as guest access). Enter your Wi-Fi network password. |
|
| 5. Select your EHR. | |
| 6. You will be taken back to the DS smart application while the system connects to Wi-Fi. | |
|
7. Once a connection is established, proceed to configuring your equipment. If your Wi-Fi connections fails, you will see an alert. Follow the prompts to resolve the connection. |
Connect Equipment

1. Select Connect under the Standard option. If you have a ReadyCheck kit, please see setup instructions here. |
|
| 2. Select Add Equipment. If this is your first time using the tablet, no equipment will be configured. | |
|
3. Select the VSM you want to use from the equipment list or Add Equipment. Confirm the Welch Allyn device name on the VSM home screen, then choose the correct one from the DS smart device list. |
|
| 4. Select OK on the Welch Allyn VSM screen. | |
| 5. Select OK on the tablet. The tablet is now paired with the Welch Allyn VSM. | |
|
6. Repeat this process for all the equipment you use regularly. When you have finished, select Close in the upper right corner. |
